Dear Parents,
Stony Brook School is committed
to providing the best education for all students and to
prepare them for success in the 21st Century.
Through the involvement of students, staff, parents and the
community, we collaborate to produce a positive and
productive learning environment. Our educational process is
designed to meet the needs and potential of each individual
learner.
We are home to 367 students,
including grades K-5. A key factor in establishing high
standards is to create a supportive learning environment
that builds students’ self-esteem and allows risk taking.
Both are essential to educating the whole child. All
students work in cross grade level partnerships, which focus
on cooperation and kindness. Our teachers receive on-going
professional development on research based strategies and
are active members of professional learning communities, all
while remaining focused on students’ needs. The students are
nurtured in an environment with emphasis on cooperation,
focusing on the positive and working together as a team.
As we look with excitement
towards the 2011-2012 school year, we at Stony Brook
continue to believe in:
·
Children coming first
and achieve their individual potential.
·
Enhancing students’
desire to become life-long learners.
·
Ensuring a safe
learning environment for all staff and students.
·
Creating
child-centered classrooms where students are actively
engaged.
·
Educating students on
character traits which are conducive to appropriate
behavior and positive attitudes.
·
Creating a positive
partnership between our school and community.
Stony Brook School has often been referred to as a family
atmosphere and we value that concept. Just as a family works
together to support each other, so does the extended Stony
Brook family.
