GRANTS AND DONATIONS

                 GRANTS

                 2011-2012 School Year

 

Dr. Margaret McCluskey and Diana Wagoner submitted a proposal to the New Jersey Department of Education, “Positive Behavior Support in Schools” (PBSIS) initiative.  During the first year the grant will reimburse the district for substitute costs to enable teachers’ from Stony Brook School to attend PBSIS training. During the second year, they will provide a contract to support Stony Brook with the costs associated with the implementation of PBSIS program.

                  

                        Grant of $2,000.00 from ING Unsung Heroes awarded to

                        Christopher Marangon to be used by the Health and Physical 

                         Education Department at Birchwood  School.

2010- 2011 School Year

     NJSBAIG 2010 Safety Grant in the amount of $26,400.00 to assist in safety security and educational related purposes toward loss prevention in the district.

    Transportation grant of $350.00 from Drew University to be used toward the 7th Grade field  trip. University recognized schools would be unable to attend the program "The Voyage of the St. Louis," due to budgetary constraints and a Holocaust survivor donated grant money for schools to attend.      

2009- 2010 School Year

     Katharine D. Malone School received a $2,000 grant from Intermec Foundation.  Stephen Gottlieb, Principal and Karen O’Donnell, Educational Technologist received the grant for their proposal “The Technological Application of StarBoard and Document Camera in the Grade 2 Math Program.” The Intermec Foundation is part of Intermec Technologies Corporation and Mr. Joseph Venturini, a Katharine D. Malone parent, was the sponsor.

2008-2009 School Year

4/28/09Agenda

      Approve acceptance of a $3,000.00 grant from Intermec Foundation to Katharine D. Malone School for the technological application of digital equipment in the 3rd through 5th Grade Science Program.

Explanation:  The money will be used to purchase digital microscopes and digital document cameras. The proposal was written by teachers, Kristen Insinga and Harriet Kasper, with input from Educational Technologist, Karen O’Donnell.

      4/28/09_Agenda

        Approve acceptance of $834.00 in math supplies from The Donors Choose “Mathematics is Essential to a Life of Independence-Part 1.”  The supplies will be used in Jennifer Romeo’s classroom at Copeland Middle School.

Explanation:  Mrs. Romeo wrote the grant and the math supplies will be used in her autistic class.

                          2007-2008 School Year

                            2/27/08_Agenda

   Authorize the acceptance of a $3,000.00 grant from Intermec Foundation to Katharine D. Malone School.  Katharine D. Malone teachers, Harriet Kasper and Kirsten Insinga, received the grant for their Outdoor Science Natural Trail proposal.

   Explanation:  The Intermec Foundation is part of the Intermec Technologies Corporation and Mr. Joseph Venturini, a Katharine D. Malone parent, was the sponsor.

Donation of an 8 by 80 foot fence along the first and third base lines at Dennis B. O’Brien School from the Rockaway Township Girls Softball Program.

Donation of science materials from Bunny Riker, friend of Dr. McCluskey and former science teacher, to the Stony Brook School for use in their science program. 

 

10/19/11

Donation of three books to SEPAC Library in the Special Education Department from Amy Servidio.

 

10/5/11

Donation of $1,000.00 from Stacey l. Kohn Gregg for provision of child care for the 2011-2012 Family Outreach meetings.

 

8/24/11

Donation of nine special education books to SEPAC Library in the Special Education Department from Melissa Silk.

 

Donation of various games and manipulatives from Michele DiSanza to be used by Occupational Therapists.

Donation of $100 from Dr. Gary J. Vitta for the Superintendent Award presented to a student for their positivism, kindness and determination to succeed

Donation by Tilcon New York, Inc. to the Theater Group at Catherine A. Dwyer School to be used toward their play.

Donation of $376.28  by Mrs. Debra Naley-Minenna to the Rockaway Township Board of Education to cover the advisor fee for the 5th Grade Chess Club at Stony Brook School, for the 2010-2011 school year.

Be It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of a $500.00 from the Parent Resource Network to be used in the district’s Special Education Program. The donation is given in memory of Gina Pintar.

Be BE It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of   $100.00 from Dr. Gary J. Vitta and Family, to be used toward the autumn beautification program.

5/13/09 Agenda

Be It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept donations of $100.00 from the Rockaway Township Administrators Association and $100.00 from ShopRite in anticipation of New Teacher Orientation.

 

4/1/09 Agenda

Be It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of $2,500.00 from PNC Bank, $1,500.00 will be used for the Summer Reading Program supplies and $1,000.00 for prizes for the PTA’s elementary school Election Day contests.

Move to authorize the School Business Administrator to apply for the 2009 New Jersey School Boards Association Insurance Group Grant Program in the amount of $13,151.00 for loss prevention.

Explanation:  The NJSBAIG Insurance Pool is providing a grant to assist members to make safety, security and educational related purchases toward loss prevention at the district level.

Be It Resolved, that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of a snare drum (approximate value $110.00) from Mr. Kirby Jacobsen, Instrumental Music Teacher, to be used at the Stony Brook School.

Explanation:  Principal, Dr. Margaret McCluskey, principal of Stony Brook School, expressed her appreciation for the donation to the school.

2/25/09 Agenda

Be It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of two (2) 35 inch Mitsubishi TV/Monitors for the music program at Catherine A. Dwyer School and eight (8) Elite 150 watt speakers for the music room/stage/instrumental music room/play at Catherine A. Dwyer School from Giant Audio Visual.

Explanation:  Approximate value of the donation is $2,800.00. 

11/19/08 Agenda

Be. It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of materials (approximate value $3,000.00) from Mr. Dennis Monti, Monti Landscaping, to be used at the Stony Brook School for a Japanese rock garden.

Be. It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of labor (approximate value $2,000.00) from Mr. John Suckey, Sunsave, LLC, toward the creation of a courtyard habitat at the Dennis B. O’Brien School.

Be. It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of funds toward a breakfast for professional development day, district service pins and tenure pins (approximate value $650.00) from PNC Bank. 

9/24/08 Agenda

Accept a $100.00 donation for New Teacher Orientation from the Shop Rite in Rockaway.

Explanation:  A donation was requested from the Shop Rite organization to supplement the cost for  refreshments for the New Teacher Orientation program, August 21 - 24.  

7/30/08 Agenda

Be It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of a two-drawer lateral file with laminate top (approximate value $300.00) from Mr. and Mrs. N. Festino, to be used in the Personnel Department at the Administration Building.

Explanation:  Due to the need for filing space, Mrs. Festino donated the filing cabinet.

Be It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of a 100 used tennis balls (approximate value $30.00) from Ms. Sue Cassella, to be used at the Copeland Middle School.

Explanation:  Tennis balls will be used on the chairs of one classroom to help reduce the distraction of chair movement noise for a hearing impaired student

4/30/08 Agenda

Accept a Katharine D. Malone PTA donation of an outdoor classroom, approximately 1,800 total square feet. 

Acknowledge receipt of a check in the amount of $4,674.00 for the 2006-2007 School Year Safety Incentive Award. 

4/9/08 Agenda

Accept a donation from PNC Bank of $2,500.00, to sponsor curricula endeavors.  Appropriate the $2,500.00 donation to account 11-190-100-610-44-099.

11/28/07 Agenda

Be. It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of a Baldwin spinet piano (approximate value $500.00) from Mr. and Mrs. R. Chesney, to be used at the Catherine A. Dwyer School.

Explanation:  A township resident donated a piano to the school district.  After consultation with the Principals, Mr. McGovern, principal of Catherine A. Dwyer, expressed a need for the piano.

10/30/07 Agenda

Be. It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of a four-drawer file cabinet (approximate value $400.00) from Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Festino, to the Administration Building for use by the Personnel Department.

10/10/07 Agenda

Be. It Resolved that the Rockaway Township Board of Education accept a donation of $300.00 from Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Spada and family to Stony Brook School ($200.00) and Copeland Middle School ($100.00) to be used for educational purposes.

Explanation:  Mr. and Mrs. Spada’s donation is in appreciation of their children’s excellent education, and in support of the Administration’s efforts in controlling costs. They will also be making donations to their three (3) children’s respective PTA’s (Stony Brook, $200.00 and Copeland Middle School, $100.00). 

9/11/07 Agenda

Accept a donation of 72 poster size United States maps from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, estimated value of donation $200.00.

Explanation:  The poster map has the Met Life logo on the lower right corner.
