FIVE-YEAR CURRICULUM CYCLE

 

 

Introduction

 

The Rockaway Township Curriculum Cycle is a 5-step process by which all district curricula is analyzed and designed in a systematic and collaborative manner.  The process provides for a comprehensive evaluation of the district’s content program, a development process, implementation, revision based on experience, and time for program effectiveness to be realized.

 

The four major curriculum areas were developed and implemented in two years, thus setting a solid foundation for the outlook of this curriculum cycle.  Upon the development of the four major curriculum areas, the cycle begins again with each major area entering year one.  This model assures that only one major content area is evaluated and developed per year.  This phased approach has several benefits:  (a) It will facilitate effective and fiscally responsible use of district resources, (b) Budget allocations for supplies and materials, textbooks and staff development can be focused on the successful implementation of the revisions or new programs, and (c) It facilitates teachers’ focus in implementing new programs by allowing them to concentrate on one major content area at a time rather than attempting to manage multiple initiatives.
